UNC Wilmington receives $1.2M for novel identity science research

Dr. Karl Ricanek, Professor of Computer Science and Director of the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) Institute for Interdisciplinary Identity Sciences (I3S), and Dr. A. Midori Albert, Professor of Anthropology at UNCW, have been awarded significant extramural funding from the United States Government to provide subject matter expertise in areas of identity science, biometrics, computer vision, big data, and deep machine learning.

NCSU’s Hunt Library one of ‘25 Best University Libraries in the World’

The James B. Hunt Jr. Library on the campus of N.C. State University is one of “25 Best University Libraries in the World,” according to U.K.-based student rental website Uniplaces. In addition to its beautiful design, the site notes that 31 percent of the Hunt Library is built from recycled content and relies on renewable energies. The Hunt Library is one of only 10 U.S. libraries on the list.

UNCG group wins $500,000 for idea to improve Greensboro

A group from local universities and colleges took first place in the Strong Cities, Strong Communities Challenge, claiming a $500,000 prize. The contest was part of the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s SC2 Visioning Challenge Grant, which the city received in 2012.
