The Carolina Veterans Organization is excited to announce its fall service project, The Ruck For Hunger. This will be a food drive in conjunction with a military ruck march, which will be held Saturday, October 3rd at 10 am. This event is open to the entire community, which is hoping to see attendance by UNC students, faculty, reserve units here in the Triangle, and local veteran organizations. We are hoping to be able to collaborate with the university and local businesses in order to set up food donation bins in their locations with the intent of picking up the food, and carrying it back to a pre-determined start and finish point. The donated the food will go to TABLE of Carrboro, NC, and the Carolina Food Pantry, which are two local non-profits dedicated to serving the hungry. We are hoping to match our 2014 donations, which topped 4,000 lbs. The CVO hopes that The Ruck For Hunger not only provides visibility on our student veterans, but also our local veterans, and our military affiliates here at UNC-Chapel Hill. A unified movement of local veterans, students, and their military affiliates in the area will demonstrate the unique ways in which they can continue to serve the community.
