In 2009, the North Carolina Military Foundation and experts at the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the University of North Carolina and NC Community College systems and RTI – International, issued a state-wide growth strategy that focused on the future needs of the military and the unique assets of in-state resources and businesses. This strategy promotes innovation clusters for six target defense markets where North Carolina can best compete: C4ISR (command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance), Fuel and Power, Human Factors, Performance Materials, RESET/vehicles support activities, Unmanned Systems.
